The Not so Good Land
Wayne Campbell: So, do you come to Milwaukee often?
Alice Cooper: Well, I’m a regular visitor here, but Milwaukee has certainly had its share of visitors. The French missionaries and explorers began visiting here in the late 16th century.
Pete: Hey, isn’t “Milwaukee” an Indian name?
Alice Cooper: Yes, Pete, it is. In fact , it’s pronounced “mill-e-wah-que” which is Algonquin for “the good land.”
Wayne Campbell: I was not aware of that.
Milwaukee has been anything but the good land for the Buccos their loss last night was their 17th straight at Miller Park. They have lost 14 straight to the brewers. Call it a Micro curse but the Pirates can’t seem to break it. Which doesn’t bode well for them as they try to break the 16 year long curse of Mr Barry Bonds. The starting pitching and bullpen who have for the most part played fantastic this season have been far less then stellar these past 2 games. The Pirates anointed ace Paul Maholm allowed 5 run and only lasted 5 1/3 innings. The Pirates pitching staff as gone from following Johnny Cash’s motto of “Walk the Line” to Dewey Cox’s “Walk Hard”, Averaging just under a walk an inning with 17 walks in the past 2 games. Hopefully Joe Kerrigan help can turn this around like his daughter Nancy Kerrigan did.
